Online Dating Safety Tips
from:Many people are using the Internet more for dating and relationship building. But there are some things to watch out for so that you remain safe.
First of all if you are heading online to actively participate in dating websites, check several first to make sure which option are available and for how much per month or time you use the site. Also check the site for contact information about the owner / operator so you get a legitimate site and check the Better Business Bureau and any client testimonials that may come with site or other references for any negative feedback reported by users.
If you decide to go ahead, opt for a trial period or the shortest available to se what you think. The slowly fill in your profile, only a minimal amount at a time until you get a feel for what others there are sharing about themselves. In other words, don’t go listing your private home address for the entire world to see plus when you’re at work, etc., an open invitation for thieves to come and break in.
Safe Communications
As you communicate with others online or via email, instant messenger, cell phone and other means today, think safety first. Not everyone is sound in mind, unfortunately, and for a variety of reasons. So handle levels of message content with finesse, curbing a sharp tongue even if you think it’s called for, because that could cause serious pent-up anger to erupt and you could be the target.
Examples of staying safe in this mode include when a caller or instant messenger sounds or appears angry, simply excuse yourself for a sudden guest’s arrival, giving the caller plenty of time and space to cool off elsewhere. Another example is with rude or obnoxious, very negative emails and forum posts. If it’s a forum, you can contact the forum moderator for help. Otherwise, leave the insulting party alone to cool off, and you move on. Time will take over here and push negative comments further down the lists and out of sight.
Couple quick tips:
1. Caution with email writing: using all caps or capital letters means SHOUTING to some people. So do not use all caps.
2. Don’t write emails when you’re angry.
3. If you do ignore #2 above & write emails when you’re angry, do not send them. Wait at least 24 hours to see if you still feel the same way. If so, write a letter. People can’t cut & paste that and stick it on forums all over the Internet for the world to see…at least not y yet!
