The Tradition of Christian Dating
from:Since the beginning of time, people have reached out for the company of others. And of course as they aged, they became drawn to the opposite sex, desiring companionship and intimacy.
The earliest matchmakers were often very popular people in their social circles, referred to as ‘go-betweens’ in native tongues. They usually knew everyone in their villages and tried to help unite two people with similar likes, social status and temperaments together in matrimony by having the people socialize in Christian settings, in public with other adults around or at least a chaperone to make sure the relationship stayed pure.
Modernization
As the world evolved, so did the concept of Christian dating and relationships. Churches reached out to help couples meet through social, often church-related functions like ice cream socials and holiday parties or dinners.
Today generally the minister works through his board and other church members, like the ladies’ committee to organize functions, invite fellow members plus others from outside the community as an outreach, and oversee and instruct them on their Christian ways.
Online Christian dating sites have also evolved, trying to help unite Christian couples together in a safe manner. To meet someone online at one of them, you simply search around first to find some that look appealing – and safe to you. Ask your minister for advice as needed.
Usually there are a couple of types of Christian sites. One is to help hook people up to share general interests like sports and hobbies; the other is for actually sating matches. Whichever you choose, you need to complete a member profile so that the site operator can help you find appropriate people sharing your interests.
Communication Tips
1) As you begin communicating, learn how to send attachments in case you want to exchange photos. You can surf online articles for helpful tips, depending upon which email service you are using.
2) Use caution, because not everyone who says they are Christian, is, unfortunately. Again, seek advice form your minister as needed, or ask a trusted friend for advice.
3) If you plan to meet, only do so in a public area in daylight with plenty of people around for safety.
4) Do not fly to a foreign country to meet someone. Countries are all run differently and some still profit from human trafficking and slavery. Beware and take care of yourself.
5) If you do decide to ignore #4 above, use the utmost caution and leave a trail. Do not let anyone carry your bags (they could try to smuggle something in them), and make plans ahead of time to check in with someone from home regularly, leaving them complete contact info about where you’ll be and how to get hold of you.
